I have about the same experience, but only when
pressing the carotid artery at the side of the
pain.
My neuro told me that there are some risks
( arterial plaque could be released and block
bloodsupply to the brain). And to *never* press
arteries at both sides at once!
In my case doing it standing up works better than
doing it lying down
Also have to press at the exact right spot else
things will get worse...

( still OK on verapamil. Beat the minor attacks
than still occur rarely in the above way.
By the way: I called it the 'vulcan death grip.
