Just to clear any confusion, the exact spot can be found by using the fore and second fingers and positioning one either side of the carotid at the front, alongside and level with the top of the larynx (on a man, at least). Straight finger pressure is applied until the pump-pump is cut off. Getting it right is essential. Wrongly done makes everything twice as bad. I have been assured by four doctors that it is perfectly safe to do both sides at once - what you are doing is merely inducing a faint; no worse than standing up too quickly. It's hell if you have stubble, mind.
