My daughter turned cronic 16 months ago, HA's 24/7. She had tried over 20 different medications including preventatives, pain killers and hospitization 5 times for intravenious DHE. We went through 5 nero's, nothing helped, she lost over 40 lbs. could not work or go to college, I was beginning to think she would have to apply for disability, she even scared her GP doctor, she was getting from 4 to 8 HA's per day with at least 3 of them being "10's" Her new nero's took one look at her and asked if we were ready to get aggressive, we said YES. He put her on 500 mg of Topamax per day and told us to take our pick of pain killers, Cocaine, Methadone, Oxycodin (we had already tried the usual, vicadin, perocet etc) We first tried the morphine patch but she threw up so bad we called and he put her on Oxycodin. I can not beleive the difference, she is now back at work (full time) and just started back to college (only 1 course till we see if she can handle it). She still gets 1 or 2 HA's a day but they only seem to reach the 4 to 5 on the pain scale. She takes one oxy, every morning, she is doing so much better, I love this doctor. She never has tried the methadone but if the oxycodin did not work we would have tried it. Being cronic is the worst thing our family has been through, the pain was unbelievable. I don't know how she got throuth it. Plese let us know if the methodone works, who knows the day may come when she may need to try it, if the oxy. stops working. Good luck, I pray you find a treatment that works for you. I do know now that there is some hope. Her life is not back to normal but at least she has one now. She is only 21 yrs. old, started getting clusters at the age of 18, I still can not beleive she is cronic. Stay in touch.
