Mine did the same thing. For about 15 to 20 years I never had one wake me up! For the first 10+ years they always came in the morning at the same time of day. At about 15 to 20 years they started waking me from a sound sleep. That was before I found oxygen, so I would use a hair drier to breathe hot air until I couldn't stand the heat. While it was cooling down I would get some transient relief until I was almost asleep then the pain would increase ... repeat the previous step. Now I wake myself up completely, take straight oxygen until the pain is completely well gone, and then I can get back to sleep. I used to make the mistake of taking only enough O2 to get back to sleep, but the I would be awakened a short time later and have to take O2 all over again.
