Like many people I went to the American embassy here in The Hague. I think there were just about 2000 people there.
Many were carrying flowers - flowers started to be left at the fence at the embassy from early evening on tuesday; burning candles too.
We stood in silence, many crying soundlessly.
We and I am sure many people around Europe joined in building a monument in time, on which each could write their own dedication.
Mine:
To the people in wheelchairs, trapped in the burning buildings.
To the people on board the planes, in that long moment of fear when they understood what was happening.
To the rescue workers, who did their duty and died in the shambles.
To the heroes on board the Philadelphia plane who somehow helped it crash.
I'll remember them in beauty
