Mike, what exactly are you afraid of? If it's being trapped inside the machine that's not even possible. Are you afraid it will hurt? There's no excessive heat or light, just a faint noise you'll hear as each scan is taken.
I had two sets of MRIs and they were incredibly interesting experiences. Even better was getting a copy of the results. Now I know what the inside of my own head looks like!
Best bet is to take the technician's advice and take a Valium (or two) before the procedure. And just relax.
