we know that archiving more than 3 years of history here is costing a small fortune for DJ, ok? Here's an idea.
For anyone that is waxing nostalgic over the old days, and missing some of the old posters, how bout doing a search on your own, printing out what you want to save for your scrapbook (if you're so inclined) -- you know, start a hard copy binder of stuff YOU want to keep, and suggesting that DJ make it policy to only archive posts for, say, 6 months and dump the rest, after everyone has had a chance to keep what they want. DJ, would that help allay some of the cost of storage space?
Now, I realize this will screw up the search feature a wee bit, but perhaps a new mandate is required to appoint a research committee to do some archiving on their own and, when new folks ask a question, our researchers could help out. For those of us that have been here for eons, I'm sure there would always be someone around who remembers things we've discussed here.
How about it folks? Can we help out a little here? You know, give some back?
