I am not passing judgement on whether or not these posts should or should not be made, just whether or not there is any point in storing them permanently.
It is no big hassle to scroll down past threads that have no interest to me personally... I do it all the time.
But it is undeniable that many of the threads read exactly like a transcript from a chat room. The difference is that in a chat room they are not stored. Many other messages are obviously aimed at one specific individual (whose e-mail link is nearly always posted), and read like a private e-mail, as do the replies. For whatever reason, e-mail was not used... okay, no biggie... but once the message has been sent and received, why keep it around forever?
I ask again... would ANYONE, even those who posted the messages in the first place, be upset if they couldn't go back months later and refer to them? Here is one of thousands (heck... TENS of thousands) of possible examples... message number 95786, titled:
"Ok, Listen up.........2 mins to reply, do you want to know who i am? :( "
We don't even know who the heck this was, for cryin' out loud! Male? Female? Clusterhead? Supporter? Was she/he posting a joke to ease someone's frustration? Nope. Supporting someone else in pain? Nope. Offering advice? Nope. Asking for advice? Nope. Providing an inspirational message? Nope. Announcing a birthday or newborn or death of a loved one? Nope. That person was just farting around. Would that person be upset if this post were to self-destruct after thirty days or sixty days or ninety days? My guess would be...
Nope.
"Both PinkSharkMark and Ken have caused enough damage and you need to stop. I am sure there are more people out there who agree with you two and are keeping quiet."
Yep. We are pretty darn influentual people, Ken and I. I, for one absolutely DELIGHT in doing damage. Bart Simpson has nothing on me. As a matter of fact, that is the only reason I bother to post here... to do damage. A thorough review of my posts would reveal this. Just type in "pinksharkmark" in the SEARCH box and mix yourself up a batch of pancakes from scratch while the search engine churns through the archives to retrieve my posts. You'll be shocked at the damage I have done in the past. Even I am surprised I am still allowed to post here.
"Personally, I would tell you what to do with your post, but I can't bring myself to do it. So instead, I wish you a wonderful day and I hope someday you both realize what you are missing out on."
Your self-restraint is noted and appreciated. In gratitude, I will exercise the same restraint.
