Hi DB,
First of all, there IS something you can do to help hubby's suffering and you're doing it right now. My husband has been a sufferer for more than 20 years and I've been going through it with him for 13 of those years. The biggest, dare I say - the ONLY - help we have found has been right here on the message board! Last October, I stumbled across it and just started reading and learning. Trying various remedies and, son-of-a-gun, we were able to stop the bastards WITHIN TWO days of learning about "Dr. Jerry's Water Treatment". Read back through the posts for late October, early November for details. Also, we tried the Oxygen inhalation with big success. We never would have known about these two rather simple treatments had it not been for DJ (the creator of this site, who I think should be nominated for Sainthood!) and the other wonderful souls on this site.
Believe me, I KNOW what you as a supporter are going through. I always used to push my husband to go to see a new doc until I realized that he was, in fact, slowly becoming a lab rat for them. I think the crowning touch for me in my traditional quest for medical support was being told there was a ONE YEAR waiting list for the headache clinic here. The poor guy could have cheerfully commited suicide if he had waited that long for relief!
The hell that these CH sufferer's go through is beyond what we think God should ask us to endure and it cannot be believed by a non-sufferer until it is witnessed. If I hear one more doctor tell us that my husband is suffering from Migraine or sinus infection, you will be able to find me serving a life sentence for murder! The medical community (for the most part) fails to recognize Clusters as a separate affliction and really doesn't appreciate a layperson's opinion. "You found it on the INTERNET?" they scoff! If there are any readers out there who are of the medical profession, I apologize to you, but I know you will agree with me that many of your colleagues do have blinders on when it comes to CH.
Anyways, sorry for the wordiness here, it just really gets me going sometimes when I hear that the ignorance is being perpetuated and passed onto yet another victim.
If you ever need a shoulder or just a good old bitch session, DB, please feel free to e-mail me directly!
Best of luck to you both, and here's to pain free day's ahead.
Cheers
Margi
