I have wondered many times if my wife were sorry of the bargain she got. We have been together 34 years. In the early part of our marriage she had several surgeries, including some very frightening lumpectomies. I stood by her because I loved her, and that was what I had vowed to do. Nothing else ever crossed my mind. Now the roles have reversed. She has faithfully stood by me months on end when I felt totally helpless and useless. I hope your husband feels the same way.
