Hi Brian,
I am as well a sufferer of those cluster headaches,
and have been fot the last 21 years,
not a comfort I know, but the thing to remember
is that although they hurt like hell, and we have
the fire in the head for a short while (at least
I hope you have similar ones to mine, who only
last for the 1 hr period),there is a temporary end
to our suffering.
Like you, I have at times thaught of the "Big End"
Let me assure you, that it is not a solution, cause
while it "May" put you out of your misery, it will
most certainly leave those around you with an even
Greater pain.
During those sessions of hurting, I know I have a
tendency to be very selfish, the "Why me " etc, but
People who surround you, Family, Co-workers, Friends
Do feel for you. I ask my entourage to leave me
as a Wounded Dog, and the only thing I want is
Cold, Darkness, Aircon on me, I strip naked and put
my body in contact with the most cold surface I
can find to dissipate the body heat, which results
in cooling me, Kicking my system and getting the
Bloodstream to react, pumping blood faster, which
results in shortening the cycle of pain. ( Not a very
easy way to perform when entourage is around, but at
home it works. In the "Daily World" I force myself to walk
rapidly, after taking at the Very first sign a dosage
of Coffergot. i have to do this at the first sign of a session
cause if you wait, it is too ,late, and vomiting may occur.
This pill disolves very rapidly, and water is recommended with it.
I have on occasions used my Saliva to swallow it when I didn't have water
ie in a plane landing etc, Yucky, but it eventually works.
Cold cans or wrapped ice at the base of the skull also helps,
as well as forcing inhaling through the Nostril of the side where
it usually hearts, in my case it prevents the Nasal blockage which
usually occurs. Also Braething through a partially closed mouth, having
the Colder air running alonside the Teeth of the side where it hurts
seems to help also for me.
I know for those other than you who will read those lines that the above
seems Ridiculous, well, any little bit helps, and I hope it will for you brtian.
Do not loose Courge, you certainly are not alone with this.
I am a Smoker, and i am curious to know if other Cluster suffering
readers are also smokers. Quitting is the only thing I haven't
done, it is next on my list.
Good luck, and do not hesitate to contact me, I as well as others on this site
is there to support you.
