my opinion - my opinion - my opinion:
around here we call 'em quackopractors
except for the people who believe in them
and they'll claim they can cure everything including stupidity
but then, how would they tell ??
seriously folks ...........
chiropractry was illegal in MA until recently
maybe other states
the chiros has offices lined up along the state line in southern New Hampshire
right next to the state liquor stores
I know as many people who were injured by chiro's, as claim they were helped
wouldn't go near one on a bet myself
chances are they won't do anything to make your CH worse OR better
but good #@$%&*( luck if you launch into an attack while one of those guys has got you strapped and stretched
I guess my SERIOUS message is don't fall for the marketing hype about alternative medicine, etc...
this ISN'T a distinct line with the good guys on one side and the bad guys on the other, but it is being hyped that way
for EVERY remedy - "scientific" or "alternative" medicine you need to educate yourself fully - from original material NOT from articles in magazines etc
I use HUGE quantities of benadryl - mostly for softening of CH - and it happens to be a VERY safe med with few if any side effects
On the other hand there are plenty of "herbals" that can get you in big trouble if you screw around with them, and they CAN have lots of side effects
don't forget, a very large fraction of our commercial medication IS derived from plants anyway
am I a crusader either way ?
hell NO -
in fact I own stock in one of the big "natural" and "herbal" medicine & supplement companies, so BUY BUY BUY
but our best chance for CH is with skilled informed neurologists and carefully screened and tested pharmaceuticals -
what about oxygen -
doesn't get much "purer" or "natural" than that
but it takes a scrip, MD authorization, etc
so it isn't considered "alternative" by the MARKETERS (which is what is behind most of the hype anyway)
a good example is Vitamin C
shortly post WW2 a med study was posted that said Vitamin C helped prevent colds
that became "conventional wisdom", including among MDs
look at the HUGE market in Vitamin C - meds, supplements, fruit - you name it
guess what - several years back, the study was revisited, and it was discovered that there had been a misprint in a decimal point in a series of numbers, and the effect of Vitamin C was virtually NOTHING - but of course walk into any supermarket or drug store & check out the claims/ads/displays for Vitamin C stuff this time of year
THEY KNOW BETTER but we buy it so it must be good, right ?
see what I mean ?
