It is professor Eric Kandel, of Physiology and Psychiatry of Columbia University in New York.

He has been doing research on memory. Using aplysia californica (a marine snail) he proved that nerve cells change (a tiny bit) when they come in contact with each other. This is memory (short term).

What's more, there is a process for converting short term memory to long term memory.

You will have to get the research reports yourself, to be sure you have the correct info, not shaded by translation.
