My neuro sent me to a neurosurgeon in Houston to discuss trigiminal surgery. I went down there today. First thing - he apologized for making me wait (15 min.) THEN spent 4 (four) hours with me (without leaving the room). HE TOLD ME how many of these ops he had done and then he got a little skull out and demonstrated how the surgery was done. He told me the BAD things that could happen without sugar coating them. He even made me repeat what he'd told me so he could be sure I understood.
He treats mostly cluster and trigeminal neuralgia and teaches pain management. AND THIS MAN TEACHES YOUNG DOCTORS! There may be hope yet.
I just don't get impressed with drs too often, but this guy is too good to be true. My cousin was with me and she didn't understand clusters. He told her NOBODY really did. And then went on to explain what he DID know about them (which was about what we've been saying - don't know what causes them and why everyone with them reacts differently).
I just had to share this. It's a NEW experience. I'm gonna have the surgery on Feb 18th, so you guys keep your fingers crossed that I'm one of the 8 out of 10 that it HELPS. I'm looking so forward to being out of pain.
Things are looking up for me. BD
