Just a little ramble...
As you know, I'm one of the lucky chronics who gets all the meds they need, for which I'm constantly
grateful. Imigran kills an attack for me within five minutes, apart from a few attacks over four years, where,
generally, I've been unwell with other things and it hasn't taken.
As a result of that, and being a natural coward, I have had very few really bad attacks lately.
Today I decided to see what happened if I didn’t medicate. Several reasons, really.
First to see if I really needed to take as many jabs as I do - first sign of pain I normally take one.
Second - if this documentary does come off, I want to be able to describe the pain intimately - especially the
sequence and time scale. No point in trying if I’ve shut the memory out!
Third, (sounds stupid) to see if it was a genuine cluster attack. Occasionally I wonder whether I’ve actually
stopped having this bout, but am confusing other pain signs as the start of an attack. (Sounds even more daft
as I write it down!)
Fourth, curiosity - could I actually get through a ten if it came?
Anyway, whatever the reasons, ****! (Wasn’t at the convention, so
am not well trained in the use of the word!)
Got to about a seven on the Kip scale before grabbing for the jab (I did keep it handy, just in case).
How did I put up with this for nearly a year without any meds? How do so many of you do so every day?
People here often say that we’re strong. We’re more than that.
What am I trying to say? Just how much I admire all of you who cope with this, and how determined I am to
fight to see that everyone gets what medication they need, not how much they (or the State) can afford, and
that we should do everything we can to eradicate it NOW.
All the best,
Simon
