Hi Heidi, I am a 31 yr. old male sufferer for the last 9 years. I as well have tried everything from prednisone, lithium, ideral, fiorinal, imitrex, maxalt - you pretty much name it! From the beginning of this demonic condition known as clusters I was prescribed Oxygen by my Neurologist - although i never got it filled because as i told my wife "i dont want an oxygen tank in my house..."
I am in the middle (hopefully coming close to the end) of a vicious cycle and immediately got the oxygen filled at the onset! If i inhale the 100% Oxygen at "8" for at least 5 minutes, the cluster seems to go away! This has only worked for me though if i catch the headache in the early stages, once it has progressed to a point where i know im going to have to "walk the beast" the oxygen has been ineffective. I have also filled my imitrex scrip. again which seems to help!!
Keep an eye on this message board - the only place in the world i know where people understand what your mom is going through! there is usually a lot of useful information posted on almost a daily basis!!
Best of luck to your mom and you - my wife at times feels as you do - unable to help. Unfortunately if we sufferers knew of a way for our loved ones to help - we wouldnt hesitate to ask - the demon just wants us to be alone in our misery!
