Hi Joe,
I would have E-mailed you this, but you left no E-mail address. First and foremost: I'm NOT a doctor. I'm just a 16 year chronic clusterhead that finds this condition as fascinating as I do painful. Secondly - Imitrex. Here's what it says in my Imitrex Injection kit:
"1. The purpose of Your Medicine:
IMITREX Injection is intended to relieve your migraine or cluster headache, but not to prevent or reduce the number of attacks you experience. Use IMITREX Injection only to treat an actual migraine or cluster headache attack."
I don't know why your doctor is telling you that Imitrex is only for Migraine. She's wrong.
Tenormin (Atenolol) is a beta-blocker. Normally beta-blockers are used for treatment of Migraine. Calcium Channel blockers are normally used to treat Cluster Headache. Click on the [ask doc greg] link and you will see an explanation of Verapamil (calcium channel blocker).
Hisminal (Astemizole) is normally used for patients with allergies. I'm not sure why your doctor would give you this medication.
Welcome to CH.com. Print as much stuff as you can for your doctor. I did. My doctor and I have worked together to help treat me. We're doing OK. I hope you do OK, too.
