Yes, the CH's have changed our lives forever. But
here is a little story that has helped me to deal
with The CH's. The person that I have lived with
for the last 10 years lost his arm when he was 21.
He was out riding his Harley on a beautiful Spring
day and hit the meidan strip. The bike flew into
the air and when it landed it tore his left arm off at just above the elbow. He was in the hospital for 3 months and his arm was reattached
after a group of surgeons worked around the clock
in teams. His arm is like that of a stroke victim.
In medical terms it is called a "helper hand". Before the accident he was a heavy equiment operator. After the accident, no one would hire
him. Alot of people see a physical disabily and
think you have a mental disabilty as well. Never once did this person ever say "why me?" Instead he
would say " I'm glad it was me and not a small child. I had my youth, played hockey, and baseball
and enjoyed my childhood." He was never bitter even though he had every reason to be. Life goes
on even when there are times when we wished it wouldn't.He has learned to make alot of adjustments because of his arm. Butit hasn't stopped him from becoming a heavy equiment operator again after an employer decided to give
him a chance. He has a large workshop in the cellar and has made lawn furniture, cabinets, shelves, you name it, all with the use of only
one arm. When things get bad around here for me
with the CH's, I think of Kevin and how he has
to make adjusments every single day for the rest
of his life 24/7. He's the one that makes me laugh
and tells me everything is going to be ok. And you
know what? Everything IS going to be ok because
we're all alot stronger than we think we are.
