Doctor Greg,
At the risk of sounding rude. The message I put on the board was for informational purposes, and also to explain a little about what can happen to you if you are not properly monitored. I was not monitored and I have had plenty of and I quote "Sorry" stories from my Neurologist and from the GP's who had prescribed the drug to me.. My wanting to put in on the net was to show that (yes these drugs can stop the headaches, as can others) the treatment of corticosteroids in very delicate. If you are the wrong type of person or you are a chronic sufferer, you should be monitored very closely and not be allow to slip as far a I did down a very horrible state of paranoia and depression.. Yes I agree that being chronic for as long as I have does have it's draw backs, and has caused me to be depressed in the past. But not to the point of loosing my mind.. I cannot stress strongly enough that steroid treatment is very dangerous if it is not administered properly.. Perhaps you and doctors like you treat patients differently over there, but over here, it's a question of time. My neurologist can see me only on very short appointments and relies on my GP (s) to continue any treatment he has requested I take. But my GP (s) are not always totally aware of when I should stop treatments. And as I have been chronic for well over a year, nor do I know when I should stop.. All I know is that people who are treated with steroids should have the right to know what can happen to them if they take certain drugs over a time. I no longer trust my GP's to tell me this information (no disrespect to you), I have now bought two very expensive medical books that go into great detail on the different drugs I take and also have a access to regular updated books accordingly… All this because I was left to go through a mind change, and had spent a long time thinking that it was all me.. Well it wasn't… It was the drugs and even my doctors are now willing to admit their mistake in not monitoring me more frequently..
Yes there are other drugs and yes I am on the other ones now, so therefor more in control of myself and my emotions. But I refuse to let this happen to anyone else. So I posted this information here to balance all of the good posts we have had here about the use of Steroid (prednisolone and prednisone) We can't go along ignorantly taking medication that we know nothing about.. I'm not posting this to frighten people. I'm doing it to warn them to be careful and try to find out exactly what the drugs they take can and do do to them.
I hope I don't sound to rude but I feel very strongly about balancing the good positive posts on drugs with some bad negative posts.
Thanks for reading
Jonathan.
