Really great post Gary.
My caveat is about the holistic, "no more drugs" school of thought. Personally, I try stopping my drugs and every 18 months or so just to do a "reality check;" i.e. Are my chronic CHs really as bad as I think they are? This has allowed me to completely drop or adjust down the level of stuff I have been taking. (I strongly agree with other posts I've read that most neurologists over-prescribe. More is not better.)
That said, I must use meds to function. I really think that my severe chronic pain alone is something I could fight. (I know that I have developed an extremely high pain threshhold.) But, the pain induces extreme lethargy going to depression and hopeless despair. The pain also blots out the desire to focus or even care about anything or anyone else. For me, I would have no life with meds.
This doesn't mean I don't agree with where you are coming from, Gary.
