I followed and agreed with your logic all the way up to this part: “My guess is that the euphoria-seeking brain cells do not respond to pain signals. Why would the “Euphoria seeking profit center” invoke pain, if by your own admission; the “euphoria-seeking brain cells” do not respond to pain signals? This doesn’t follow any economical or biological logic to me.
