Carl, I'm very sorry to hear about your friend and know that words cannot ease the pain you feel.
Please do not even consider suicide, for although your pain is unending and tortuous now, it will one day abate. You have so much living yet to do, you just have to try harder to hang in there and hope and pray for a remedy or remission.
Those of us who are old enough to be your parent have lived through many difficult times and have felt at the end of our rope, but things have a way of getting better, sometimes when you least expect it.
I wish you peaceful times ahead.
