Michelle
I've had these things for about 20 years. I, too,
always had the problem of never getting in to see
the neuro until my cycle was at/near the end. He
told me to bypass the receptionist and call his
nurse directly. I felt the start of a cycle on
Sunday, called on Monday, and got in to see him
on Wednesday!
Up to this cycle, I have always treated the
symptoms with oxygen and imitrex over the last
3-4 years. This time, since I got to see him at
the start of the cycle, he put me on verapamil
(150 mg per day). In over a month, I've had just
a handful of very mild headaches that go away
with oxygen. I've not taken a single injection!
In about 2-3 weeks, I will reach what should be
the end of my cycle. I think that at that time,
if I don't feel them lurking, I will ween off
the verapamil (Conventional wisdom from this site
seems to be that you shouldn't stay on it indef.)
No real side effects to speak of, although I may
have to increase the exercise program over the
next few months.
My advice is to try to talk to the neuro right
away. If he knows about c/h, he also knows that
to make your husband wait for an appointment is
criminal.
Best of luck
Rick
