I was given Ultram by a workman comp. dr.who had never treated me before. He gave this med to me for a shoulder injury. I took half of a 50 mg tab
immediately and felt only slight relief. He told me to take a whole one if the half didn't work, so I did several hours later before I went to work. I am an LPN who does home health for ped. vent pts.
At 11 pm (2hrs p the 50mg tab)I started to feel very dizzy and confused. I could hardly walk, I had slurred speech and hallucinations, dry mouth, cold sweats, nausea(severe),I was very confused and scared. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath. I looked completly DRUNK! A nurse friend came to my rescue at about 1215 am and couldn't believe her eyes. She said I had lost all color out of my face. They took me to the E.D. where the nurse on duty kept asking me if I was trying to kill myself and how much etoh I had. Finally someone asked if I was taking any other meds. I some how conveyed that I take Xanax one to two times daily but that day I did not take any because I was feeling better. I also take Soma (not compound) daily but had not taken that because I had taken the Ultram. I still do not know what happened to me. The only thing they did at the hosp. was blood work that came out norm.,except glucose@128. I had those same symptoms for about 36 hrs, I was completly bed ridden. I'm fine now but afraid to take any type of pain meds again. Was this an allergy or just side effects? Did the Xanax in my system from the day before maybe cause this? I would love some info. Thanx Crystal
