Everybody, (Carl I've already told you this):
When you get ready to apply for SSI, FIRST call, write and go see your Congressman. There is someone in his/her office who deals with the SSA on behalf of constituients (msp).
The "automatic" first denial is a myth. When I applied for my husband (after a stroke), I first went to our Congressman and told him he could now earn his keep. It takes about six months to receive the first check (a waiting period or something - never did understand that one), but my husband received his first check EXACTLY 6 months after his stroke.
My congressman's office called the SSA every week "inquiring" as to the status of our claim. The SSA didn't even require a physical before they oked it.
Folks, these people in Washington REPRESENT "US". Let them do their job. BUT send your congressman a copy of everything you send to the SSA. Imformed is forewarned! Try it IT DOES WORK!
Hugs BD
