I hope it was, indeed, the tooth.
I went through a similar experience with the fifth upper tooth back on the side of the cluster. First it was abcessed, then root canal which helped for a while. Then they came back. Then it was a cracked root in the same tooth, so I had it pulled. That helped for a few weeks, but they came back. Then I went to a neurologist who diagnosed it as Trigeminal Neuralgia and gave me such strong drugs (Tegretol) it was like a haze.
Be carefull of the quick diagnosis, unless you are going to a competent headache specialist.
