Soo sorry you had a rough night. Be thankful you have a caring, loving son to be there for you - we all know there's nothing anyone can do, but the knowledge of concern is an aid in itself.
Try either icepacks or hotpads for the neck nerves-I've had success with both, though heat seems to work better IF the clusterhead attack is over. I can't handle heat while the demon is still doing his dastardly dance in my head.
