9 years ago I was sent by Duke Univ. to the Clinic. I received a histamine drip that they were experimenting with. Following this treatment, I was headache free for three years.
Unfortunately this is not a treatment that is still used. The results were positive in only a small # of patients.
I found the staff to be great. My personal Dr. while I was there was Dr. Seymor Frietag, who is still there. He got into headaches because he suffers from Clusters.
I was in their hospital ward, and just being among headache sufferers was a relief in that we all shared this beast, animal, monster together.(A lot like finding this site)
They took you off all your meds, particularly pain meds. Tihs was tough on some who left the program because they could not take the pain or possibly the withdrawals.
You were treated holisticly, from your diet, biofeedback, exercise and relaxation techniques. I was not put on any medications other than the drip.
Dr. Diamond used to have a "Diamonds Elixor", which was little more than childrens Tylenol and a non-narcotic muscle relaxer. That was the only meds used while I was in-patient there.
All-in-All I'd say it was worth it.
Good Luck, Keep us posted.
