I have been to the clinic 3 times now and each time they have broken my headache cycle.
DHE seems to be the most helpful thing for me...an intraveneously given
drug that mimics seratonin in the brain. There are other drugs
they prescribe according to individual needs. Some are maintenance drugs, others are abortive drugs. I guess
each case is different.
I am fortunate enough to have good insurance so that really helps me. Priceline.com gave me good prices on flights
(I actually paid more for taxi fares to and from the airport to hospital than I did for the airline tickets. First you are generally seen
by Dr. Merle Diamond in her office and then hospitalized if deemed necessary. The 5th floor of the Columbus Hospital (a few blocks from the Clinic)
is totally headache clinic patients.
I definitely recommend it. I've suffered with migraines for 14 years...they get me relief. One word of caution....don't expect to be magically healed....if you can get the headaches lessened and
less severe, that's a victory in itself.
