I agree!!! Don't be intimidated by them. If you stand up, and tell them how it is going to go, and demand things, and remind them of patient rights, they will instantly become more respectful, and more open. I'm not sure if it's fear of a law suit, or just knowing that they aren't dealing with the village idiot, but it does work. When Patty was in, we kept a notebook, and logged EVERYTHING; meds, nurse on duty, what the Dr. said, tests run, and everything else, and on more than one occasion, caught them in error in something they were saying. When we pointed it out to them, they instantly became apologetic, and it looked like the respect level for us went up quite a few levels. We even corrected a nurse who was about to give Patty the wrong meds! She had the ones for the next room! Don't be afraid to get in their face. You do have an entire patient bill of rights, and one of those is the right to know! Use that right!!
