Rick,
As one of your chronic cronies, I do understand where you're coming from. BUT, you can be active in your community. There are just times you'll be unavailable - then you need a backup. (someone to step in for you when you can't be there.) I've been doing it for several years.
I "dabble" in local politics (big time) and sometimes I can't make a meeting. When I can't I send my notes with my business partner and she or her husband speak for me. During the recent city elections, I wrote campaign ads for four candidates (got two of them elected), went to rallies (when I could) and filled out finance forms for all four candidates. I did this between headaches and with only one eye.
With children you have to be more careful of what you promise. Tell your little brother what is wrong with you and what happens if you get a headache. Also explain that there will be times that you won't be available, but if you're not someone else will fill in.
What I'm getting at is you can't give up your life for these CHs. You just have to change the way you do things. But you need to start giving yourself permission to have a disability and quit making excuses for not doing what you want to do. You just have to play with the cards you're dealt.
I wish you luck and a lot of good times.
Hugs BD
