Thanks to DJ for alerting re BBC article. It's nice to know that what you've long suspected is true - there actually is something wrong with your brain!
A few comments on my last month of agony which finished 2 weeks ago: (1) no 2 bouts are the same, last year it was only a single 10+ scortcher on the wrong (right!) side, first ever. 2 prior years I almost thought the Chs had gone for ever. This year 4 Ch's in the 7-10 region, rest more moderate. I used to only get one per night, which set me up for one around midday, but this time had 3 at regular 1-2 hr intervals.
(2) Finally gave in and got Imitrex. DID NOT use it! Since my CH's rarely last more than 20 mins at high intensity, the idea of taking a $50 shot for 10 mins of relief seemed ludicrous. I prefer to fight the demon, even if it means rolling around on the floor and biting the carpet. I find that continuous pressure on the temporal artery plus an icepack, applying the presuure with the pack, can reduce the intensity to bearable limits (Like the face in the freezer some have mentioned).
