Cory,
I just discovered this web site today, after suffereing from episodic clusters since 1978. Your note rang a bell with me since I believe my clusters were triggered by a flight I was on back then. After take off, as the plane was gaining altitude, I was struck by a pain behind my left eye that was like nothing I had ever felt before. My immediate thought was that it had to with the pressurization of the plane. As it got worse, my eye and nose began to run profusely and then I lost sight in my left eye! The attack lasted about 2-3 minutes, during which time I was very scared. As usddenly as it started, the pain went away and the sight came back to my eye. Anyone who has suffered a cluster knows these symptoms well! I have always suspected that that flight served as the original trigger for my headaches.
But, enough about me! I want you to know that I have always thought that suicide would be the easiest thing I've ever done - if I did it while at the peak of a cluster. However, since suffering twice a year from clusters since 1978, I am encouraged by the level of understanding and treatment available today. Back then, hell, I didn't even know what I had! I can't imagine what you must go through living with these headaches all the time! I know that they suck all the life out of a person. Not to mention the fact that doctors would rather cut off an arm than to prescribe a pain killer. My point is that I believe that a cause and a cure will be found soon. I encourage you to hang around long enough to take advantage of it!
Regarding other treatments, one thing I always do when a cycle starts is visit my chiropractor regularly. Can I prove it helps me? No. Do I believe it helps me? Yes.
Hang in there dude,
Doug
