I was diagnosed with CH about two years ago. I immediately had to terminate my profession as an airline pilot pending medical investigation and treatment. The Neurologist prescribed Lithobid @ 600mg per day. Immediately the Ch's disapeared, but for only a month or so,
At this time the dosage was increased to 900mg. At that dosage, the frequency of attacks decreased somewhat and the severity was diminished. After three months the frequency and severity increased and my neurologist increased the Lithobid dosage to 1200mg per day.
I have found at this stage that O2 is an effective abortive agent but only if therapy is begun early during a CH attack. Unfortunately, the alleged side affects are brakdown of bone tissue over extended use. Any one else care to comment on that?
A prophylactic agent corticosteroids was discovered by accident due to injections from my allergist. I discovered that two to four days would pass without CH attacks
Having read most all of the postings at this great little web site, I plan to drop a few hints of alternative medication on my Neurologist.
Would like some feedback from any CH sufferers out there who have tried ERGOTAMINE.
I will give prescription meds one more chance, then for me it's the GAMMA KNIFE. For I am a chronic suffer...seldom does a day pass without at least one attack. Life is not worth living in this condition.
