Jackie,
I tried Verapamil for a few days, and it didn't help me. But I did get a write up from the pharmacy. It doesn't say how long it stays in your system, but it does say this:
"Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without your doctor's permission. Chest pain can occur if the medication is stopped too fast. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased."
Have you ever tried Imitrex? It works great for me, but with my insurance is about $9 a shot (there are pill forms also). Also, the last time I was in my deep CH season, my doctor put me on Prednisone (1 20mg pill a day for ten days). From the first day I started taking the prednisone, my CH went away. They stayed away for two years. Be sure to taper off the prednisone for a few days at a lower and lower dosage. I had sinus headaches and nausea for two days, because I stopped cold turkey. But for two years of freedom, it was well worth it. Now I am back in my season again. Guess what brought them back??? I had eye trouble and took prednisone for 3 months to reduce swelling. 5 days after I tapered off the prednisone, I started with the CH again. So too long on the stuff probably was to habit forming. 10 days is not bad at all. It has a small dose of steriod in it, but don't worry, a small amount over a small period of time won't hurt you. I have a friend who has been on it for about 20 years, for krones (sp?) disease.
