I know what you mean about being thought of as a drug addict . I have never taken drugs in my life nor do I look like a junkie , but you can't stereotype drug addicts . Problem is , as you said , we have to explain ourselves , on top of everything else , of our problem and how and what we feel .
Can you imagine , my family doctor gave me toradol ( I think they're some kind of anti inflammatories ) for my CH .. He didn't know what it was ...
I just needed to be referred BACK to my Neuro , whom I had seen just a little over 3 yrs ago . So , by law , in Canada, you need your GP's referreal to a specialist .
So ..it was few days before appt with Family doc ,,then 10 days or so before seeing the neuro ..and that ONLY when I yelled and screamed at his secretary telling her I'd come down there and poke my own eye out in front of her and hand it over to her .
Can u imagine I got to see the neurp only 10 days after ..otherwise it would have been 2 months later !!!
I think , what we need here is better education of the medical community and general public ..and that will be thru the so called media blitz ..
