Scott,
Most CHeads (episodic) stay in a cycle about 8 weeks (some less, some more). Those of us who are chronic - you don't even want to know.
Water does work to lessen the intensity of the pain and sometimes abate it all together. O2 helps most of us. I've not heard of Imitrex shots making you sleepy, but we all react differently. Has he tried DHE? That sometimes will break a cycle. Best done in hosp. IV, but can be taken IM at home. Be SURE to take something for nauseau with it. Phenergan or Raglin work best for me. The Phenergan you can mix with the DHE. Raglin has to be injected seperately (Do NOT mix it with the DHE in the same syringe).
Margie is heading the Family Outreach program with OUCH. You might contact her to see how you can help your father. We all wish you the best of luck. Stay with us.
Hugs BD
