I'm a 42 year old female and I have been getting ch since I was 25. I am now only going through my fourth attack in all that time. I have not had a pain free day since early November. My attacks seem to last about 4 months. Some days are better than others. Right now I have shadows, and have had shadows every day. Yesterday, I had a total of 4 attacks, my last one being the worst. I did, however, get a full nights sleep for the first time since I can remember. My attacks generally last 15-30 minutes but they knock me out.
I am now on elavil but it doesnt seem to work. Or maybe it is and the attacks are shorter and less intense then they would be without it. Who knows. I do now that a hot shower always helps. I just stay in there until I think its over. Some how it helps me cope. I don't know if this is all psychological or what but who cares. It helps me. Try it, it might help you.
I also find a hot hair dryer, a tip I read on this message board, also helps somewhat, but not as good as a shower. Asprin, Aleve, Ibuprofen, otc drugs do not help me.
I have my first neuro appointment this Thursday and I'm hoping that he can put me on something to get through this. I have printed out some info which you will find to the left of this page. I hope he takes the time to look at it.
Good luck. Hope you find something that works.
