Description:
Injecting a medication can be the fastest and most efficacious way to treat migraine. For certain migraineurs, medications taken by mouth are either not effective or work too slowly. However, some are reluctant to use medications that require a needle.
A new, disposable, pre-filled, needle-free drug delivery system for is being tested with sumatriptan. An inert gas propels the medicine through the skin, into the tissue below. This device is designed to be safe, easy to use, and easy to dispose. Clinical tests are underway to determine if this needle-free device provides the same rapid, effective migraine relief that is associated with sumatriptan given with an autoinjector.
Side Effects:
Injection site reaction, nausea, malaise, tiredness, tingling, dizziness, and chest symptoms (pressure, pain etc.)
