Eletriptan
Synonyms:
Relpax, UK-116044
Drug Class:
Abortive - Triptans
Drug Approval Status:
Pre-registration
Description:
Eletriptan has longer half-life and more consistent absorption than sumatriptan. These features were hoped to produce a lower headache recurrence rate and faster onset of headache relief. Eletriptan appears to produce more headache relief at earlier times than oral sumatriptan. But headache recurrence rates are similar for the two medications.
Two hours after treatment 54%, 65% and 77% of patients in a clinical study experienced headache relief with 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg respectively. This compares with a headache response rate of 55% with sumatriptan. Headache free rates were 19%, 29%, and 37% with the same doses of eletriptan. The effect of the 80 mg dose was significantly different than sumatriptan 100 mg.
Side Effects:
Typically side effects are mild and infrequent and include tiredness, generalized weak feeling, nausea, dizziness, tingling feeling, chest, neck or throat pressure.
How Taken:
