We are all "the messanger", and if we want recognition, we must all make a little noise of our own.
Plan a clusterhead gathering - publicize thru your local newspapers free community news. Call your local ER and talk to an ER nurse. (Tell her/him you are inviting the ER staff to a "rap session " and how would they like to talk to a group of clusterheads? Is there any way to talk to the doc in charge of ER staff? Tell them that you will be sending them an invitation on OUCH letterhead announcing where and when the gathering will be. Tell them food will be served. ha haa, right Nancy?) When you find that they are interested ( and chances are very good that they will be), get in touch with the local Neuros and tell them that it is also open to them. Give it a name. Maybe our Liaison Committee can come up with a name for us to use. We should also have a universal adgenda so that we are all on the same track.
Can we build on this idea?
I a new ER Registrar and am slowly acquainting myself with the medical staff. I don't want to take it too fast as they might think I'm trying to be a Know-It-All, but I did wear my OUCH shirt under a sweater and flashed some of the nurses and one of the docs and started a great conversation about cluster headaches. This doc told me to talk with the head ER doc and that she thought the other doc would be very interested and would talk to the staff neuros too. I am very excited about this and hope to get something organized for our April 27-28th Florida gathering.
Wish me luck.................
