don, you fell for the old "gotta be octangular" bs. This is an internet hoax that's been around for years, but so well done even the Redmondians sometimes fall for it.
The correct hole shape must be, always has been and always will be, rectumlinear.
As for the Power Rangers longjohns, they shouldn't cause any problems unless your pair features LongDong Ranger. If that's the case, I recommend you switch to the GI Joe longjohns. Get the ones with Joe in desert camoflague, not the standard green forest camo. Of course, there are as many opinions as there are puter perts, so some will tell you to go with the Barbie at the Beach longjohns. IMHO, these are fine, provided you are secure in your masculinity and your significant other is open-minded.
If neither of these conditions apply, go to Home Depot and buy all the pipe insulation you can find. Wrap all your extremities in it (yes, even "that" one) and affix with copious amounts of duct tape. Assuming your torso is bigger than 2", you'll also need some Miraflex bat insulation. I've never figured out why you need to insulate bats, but ours is not to question why...
I did a Norton LiveUpdate about 20 minutes after you posted and it worked fine. It's possible that:
1. when you tried the site was busy (first of the month - a common time for people to set their auto-update)
2. the first box on Update asks what type of connection you want to use. Assuming you're already online when you try to Update, it should say Internet. If yours says Dialup or something else it won't work cause you're already online so it can't get a dialtone. Same may apply to the Connection Wizard
3. you have failed to follow all my previous instructions
KTSSU (and the insulation side out),
