Charlie is right, this is not an airy, fairy thing. It works, but you literally have to force blood to another part of your body. Well this might sound crazy to some - but some on this board deem me an eccentric bar owner with suicidal tendencies (I love to do Cyote Ugly during a CH attack with my tri-kini - sun hat, slip slops & sun glasses, at my age, you must expect where everything is hanging by now, infront of many deprived fishermen and sailors)- I don't mean you do the Cyote Ugly!
This is what I do; I fall down (or lay down - falling down may sound as if I am drunk) and let my arm hang, that is to give gravity a chance - logical - blood flows to the lowest point.
If that does not work fast enough because my mind is very hyper then the dog (Freudian part TimM)in me starts to wake and I bite on my hand as hard as I can without drawing blood. Blood then - logically - and (I think they call themselves endomorfins)floods to my hand which is like a lovely trick that the body has, you hurt one part and it has to go and fix there and temporarily forgets about the other hurt. That is why we bang our heads when we have ch, I think.
If we can hurt the outer part more, get the blood to flow more to the outside, the pressure will release a bit on the inside?
I don't say it always abort an attack, it lessens the intensity if you've been through 6 attacks already that day and you've ran out of meds. It does abort an attack if you catch it well in advance and you become in the habit of doing this throughout the day. In my case it might become a macabre scene where you might get locked up if you do this in public, for something similar to "Silence of The Lambs".
