The intolerable pain is the thing that makes CH stand out from other disorders. Many here have tried various remedies. Having monitored and participated on this board for three years, the general consensus is that most people take Verapimil regurlarly, and use oxygen upon the onset of an attack. This is the consensus, I believe. There are other remedies (shrooms) that some have had success with. In additions, other drugs (too many to list) have been tried along with Verapimil, with varying degrees of success, according to the individual taking the drug. In short, your doctor has to understand the level of pain, and make an effort to find something to give some relief. Avoid painkillers, if at all possible. However, I understand what you are enduring, and have resorted to vicoden from time to time. They are addictive, if overused. Good luck, and find a good neuro. That makes a difference.
