As you and I know it is the medication of last resort.
When the Doc doesn't know what is wrong with you and all else has failed he gives you a steroid because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
As you rightly pointed out, the fact that clusters respond to prednisone doesn't mean much of anything, and I am so ashamed for having implied so :-)
Anyhow I think the auto-immune thing is interesting.
