Actually, while the doc provided me with both the Codeine and non-codeine variety. Except in one case, I have never used the one with codeine. Also, am frankly not sure it makes much difference for me, since my CH's seem to last 45-60 mins with or without the stuff. What I am certain works, however, is the Verapamil.
One other thing, after having these CHs for years, I have found that I can actually sometimes anticipate they just before they hit. I have a faint sensation that is hard to describe, but if I am awake, I often have sufficient awareness to brace myself. In the early days, when they just started, I was not very attuned and the hit me like a freight train.
