Sorry to hear you have them, Husker. I've had these demons for over 20 years and yes, variation in intensity is common...sometimes you can function through them, other times, they'll make you do the CH shuffle (pacing). Good advice you've gotten already from others...make sure it isn't something else first - have the CT scans and MRI's etc. and then be aware most doctors are very prone to diagnosing migraine first, as it is much more common an affliction, but differs significantly from CH's. Education is something we CH sufferers HAVE to do or we'd never get relief! Good luck - I am so sorry you're getting these - the pain of these things is shocking to the newly experiencing.Jim R
