I've been on Verapamil as a prophylaxis for 10 years with only occasional breakthrough headaches (much less severe than prior to Verapamil treatment). Prior to medication with this drug, I was having a ridiculous max. of 13 headaches/day!Since the light has been decreasing, I have noticed my headaches increasing in number and intensity. This week, I've had clusters of the same intensity as prior to my starting Verapmil 10 years ago. Last night, I was in agony for an hour and a half after having 2 beers which has never bothered me while I've been on Verapmil - until now. It appears the Verapmil is no longer working and am wondering what I can do next. I have a doctor's appt. Monday, but it's with a family practitioner and they rarely know much of anything about clusters....but I have to go through them to get referred (insurance...) My question: are there any new promising treatments out there that have been developed or refined in the past 10 years? I am not a candidate for Imitrex becasue I'm a 47 yo male and it is condraindicated for males over 40....Thanks in adavance. Can't stand this pain
