ER trip at 10pm - Kip 4 hit at 8:30pm, rapidly escalating to Kip 8. O2, no result; ice, no result; imitrex, no result; headbanging, no result. Doc listened, asked what made this headache different, asked why pred now (what changed that made me start taking it), asked what worked before and what I wanted to try. I was blatantly honest, said it's reached the suicidal (or almost suidical) pain level. Didn't get sent to the psych ward. He suggested lidocaine drops in my nose, or a toradol shot if I preferred that.
I figured, lidocaine: can't hurt, might help. 12:30am, Kip 9 to 9 1/2, droppers of lidocaine all over inside left nostril; 12:40am, rapidly decreasing pain, getting numb; 12:45am, Kip 2 to 2 1/2, basically just very sore and achy in the temple, eye and back of head - no stabbing pains anymore.
1:50am, starting to wear off, Kip level increasing but only ache/soreness, no stabbing. Doc offered Toradol shot - I accepted. Home by 2:20am with lidocaine drops prescription (filled, not just the paper!); slept from 3:30am to 6:40am.
So how cool is that?! Hope this helps someone else!
hugs to all, Elizabeth
