Okay, some of my writing has been known as kind of abstract. However, this lyric, prose, thought, poem(?) – I don’t even know what in the world to call it. This just hit me tonight after watching what else but the grand ole telly, and after re-reading it again, I figured I would share it with others. After my writing partner and I threw things back and forth, we finished it about 15 minutes ago. Please let me know what you think, good or bad.
Daddys Tears
Daddy, Why aren’t the cartoons on today?
Isn’t this the time they’re usually on?
Daddy, What just happened to that airplane?
And where is all of that smoke coming from?
Daddy, Who was that just on the phone?
Daddy, Why are you crying?
Why does everyone on the TV seem so sad?
Could you tell me, because I don’t understand?
Daddy, Those two buildings look familiar
Isn’t that where mommy works?
Daddy, What is that man saying?
I don’t understand these words
What is a highjacking? What is a terrorist?
Why are planes crashing? Why is that man crying?
What is wrong with everyone?
How much longer will this be on?
Are the cartoons gone forever?
And is mommy coming home?
Son, there are some very bad people in this world
And you’re much too young to understand this right now
Daddy is here to protect and hold you
But mommy is sleeping in the clouds
Daddy, Did you see those men with the flag?
Is that where those two buildings were?
Daddy, What does act of war mean?
Is that how mommy got hurt?
Daddy, I just have one more question
Will things ever be the same again?
Son, there are some very strong people in this world
And I hope you will understand somehow
Daddy is here to protect and hold you
And mommy is your Angel now
